Sigiriya & Dambulla Day Tour
Sigiriya, an ancient palace, was once named the 8th wonder of the world.
Today, Sigiriya and Dambulla are a UNESCO-recognized heritage site and a major tourist attraction.
The drive from Ahungalla in Sri Lanka's Central Province takes approximately 4.5 hours. It houses an ancient cave temple, also known as the Golden Rock Temple, which is a popular tourist attraction.
About 25 km from Dambulla is Sigiriya, where you will find the "Lion Rock". This is a 220 meter high rock, on the top of which an ancient king built his palace.
Sigiriya is not only a well-preserved model of ancient city life, but for many it is also a climbing adventure.
A day tour of Sigiriya and Dambulla is enough to explore Sri Lanka's majestic past.

Sigiriya
Early in the morning you drive to Sigiriya (approx. 4 hours drive) and climb the centuries-old rock fortress of Sigiriya. Sigiriya is famous for its golden granite fly agaric, which rises into the blue sky from a hot, flat bush wilderness - and which transforms into a water garden in the rainy season. After visiting this beautiful area, have lunch at a restaurant we recommend.
Dambulla
After lunch, visit the Dambulla rock temple, built in the 1st century BC. It was built by King Walagambaha in BC. It is the most impressive cave temple in Sri Lanka. The complex of five caves with over 2000 square meters of painted walls and ceilings is the largest painting area in the world. It contains over 150 Buddha images, and the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha, carved into the rock and spanning 14 meters.

During our 10 day visit to Sri Lanka in January 2022, my husband and I enjoyed 3 tours. We had a great time on each one and would throughly recommend Tony's family tour business. We went to Sigiriya and Dambulla, whale watching and Galle (including river safari and turtle hatchery).
