A priceless gift – the gift of sight

A Gift That Touches Hearts – Glasses for the Ahungalla Elderly Home
Being able to see – something so many take for granted – means freedom, dignity, and independence for others. Recently, Tony Sri Lanka Tours had the privilege of sharing a deeply moving day at the elderly home in Ahungalla, together with guests and supporters.
A monk came to bless the residents. In his words, he spoke of a gift more valuable than many others: the gift of sight. Tony sat with his family and the 16 residents, listening to the monk's words that touched everyone's heart.
For many years, Tony and his family have been supporting elderly homes, orphanages, and schools in Sri Lanka – with warm meals, clothes, and essential supplies. But this day was special. Thanks to a partnership with opticians from Germany and the Maus family, Tony brought 19 donated glasses to the home.
Each resident was able to choose the pair that helped them see clearly. One former maths teacher beamed with joy as he held his books again, finally able to read. His happiness and gratitude were beyond words.
The elderly home is small, with beds close together, and little privacy. Many residents live in deep poverty, unable to afford even basic necessities. For them, a pair of glasses means not just seeing – it means a new life.
In recent weeks, with the support of German opticians and the Maus family, over 30 glasses have been donated to people in Sri Lanka who desperately needed them.
Tony shares his heartfelt thanks:
"We thank all the opticians and the Maus family for their generosity, organisation, and this valuable help. You have made many lives brighter."
A small gift – with a big impact.
